It has been some months since our last Overwatch 2 update. After Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, expectations of change were on everyone’s minds. Now we have some. We finally have an announcement regarding open and closed betas. But is this announcement enough?
It has most definitely built up a lot of hype regarding Overwatch 2, as it rightly should. You do not need to look further than the Overwatch website not handling the influx of players trying to sign up for the closed beta. Also, every second tweet on my timeline had someone hyping up the announcement. Perhaps this is the most hope the Overwatch player base has had since the announcement of Overwatch 2 back in 2019.
While this is definitely exciting, I am still skeptical. Because of all the promises that the dev team has made, I can not bring myself to trust anything they say until it happens. This promise of more frequent updates is something we got promised time and time again. I think back to one of my first posts where I discussed the proposition of more frequent balance updates; while not entirely the same, it is applicable here. Overall we need more communication, something I have noticed more and more in different situations. Communication makes a big difference in people’s opinions and reactions. If the dev team does give us more updates in the near future, I will 100% be more optimistic for Overwatch 2.
You might think I am only negative about Overwatch 2, and yes, I am. But I am doing it more for protection. I want more than anything for Overwatch 2 to succeed. I have been in love with Overwatch since I started playing in 2018. Despite my complaints and lack of playtime recently, I do enjoy the game, and I want it to thrive. It just becomes difficult to play a game that feels the exact same that it did over a year ago. My want to play games comes from the idea of learning more about them. I can not learn more about a game that has not changed in any regard. I would love for Overwatch 2 to be successful because you can bet I will be playing that game non-stop for hours. I do not want to get my hopes too high for them to fall crashing down on me once again. I do not even know how many times that has happened at this point.
No one has to agree with my opinion, and those of you who have nothing but excitement, hope, and positivity for the future of Overwatch, I applaud you. You have more patience than I have. I hope to see you all in about a month or so, hopefully less, with some more updates on Overwatch 2!
